University Campus Suffolk
‘Innovative – flexible - sustainable - student centred - integrated - impact – implementable’; these words formed the brief for the University Campus Suffolk, which was created to improve accessibility to tertiary education within Suffolk, and was a key part of the new ‘Education Quarter’ in Ipswich.
The design team were appointed in May 2006, and delivered the masterplan and first phase building in September 2008, and the second phase ‘James Hehir’ building in 2010. Both schemes achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’. The projects contain a wide range of university accommodation from dry laboratory facilities through to the new student union bar and nightclub.
“The way in which this building was conceived and delivered has set the benchmark for young Universities. We needed something to make a statement, we needed it on time, we needed it on budget and we needed it to be truly sustainable. It has delivered on all counts and has been made possible by the skill, dedication and collaborative approach by all involved in the project.”Neil Jackson - Head of Estates
