Gateway

University of Bedfordshire

location | Polhill Campus, Bedford  year | 2014  value | £16m  size | 3,750m2

MCW architects won a competitive OJEU tender process to take forward the framework with the University of Bedfordshire for work across their various estates. We commenced work on the Polhill New Academic Building in Bedford in October 2013.

The work consists of several elements of development that create an upgrading of the existing campus. These include a new teaching and learning facility (3750m2), as well as extensive associated landscaping and a redevelopment of the supply infrastructure into and across the site.

The Gateway is a new academic building which consists of lecture theatres, seminar and classrooms, staff space, and informal learning areas. The building achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’.

Intensive dialogue has been undertaken with the client estates team and the building users, as well the local authorities.

As a University we really prioritise in investing in student facilities, and I think this is the best yet.
— Bill Rammell, Vice Chancellor, University of Bedfordshire.
