The Merthyr Learning Quarter in South Wales was commissioned to improve and expand the “learning landscape” in Merthyr Tydfil through the redevelopment and expansion of the existing further education college. The design involved a fundamental rethinking of the linear structure of the existing building, leading to a collaborative and engaging layout of functions, to support the college’s ambition to deliver a curriculum for prosperity and the future.  

The 13,450m2 college building accommodates all curriculum areas including mathematics, science, ICT, technology, creative arts, hair and beauty, independent living skills, health, catering, business, sports, public services, social sciences and humanities. The building also houses a multi-functional sports hall designed to Sport England standards, along with a nursery and learning zone.
