Barnfield College currently has an estate of circa 24,000sqm, with two campuses located in the north of Luton (New Bedford Road and Enterprise Way). Due to the age and inflexibility of the buildings across the two campuses, the College plans to dispose of the existing two campuses and build a new, modern and innovative campus in Bute Street in Luton town centre.

We established the College’s operational needs, spatial specifications and service requirements and designed a 13,600sqm building that brings all of the College’s activities together under one large roof:

general teaching, specialist workshops for construction, automotive, engineering, science, business and computing, creative arts, hair & beauty, music, sports, student administration, academic workspaces, higher education, Key Stage 4, learning for independent living and work, library and catering facilities.

Although there were no specific client requirements the design team undertook BIM Level 1 for the project. The project is currently on hold.
