When the Cambridge-based charity, ACE Foundation, acquired a Victorian farm in 2009, they envisioned a vibrant hub for education, culture, and the arts. Tasked with transforming this vision into reality, we eagerly embraced the project, and came up with cost-effective configurations and fresh, attractive ideas for the spaces. Bringing our pragmatism and design skills, we engaged closely with ACE, ensuring every detail was meticulously planned. Our collaboration resulted in a sustainable, inspiring environment for ACE’s educational activities, offering a welcoming focal point for both the local and regional community.

This Victorian farm near Cambridge has been transformed into a vibrant educational and cultural hub, and a ‘home’ for the ACE Foundation. Offices, creative studios, and a gallery have been added alongside a multi-use performance space, re-energising the historic buildings and sustaining their use for many years to come.

A south-facing, timber framed gallery space connects the new entrance with the main building and opens onto a shaded terrace which overlooks the courtyard. The barn has been lined and overclad to provide a passively ventilated workspace for the Foundation.
The team at MCW are always a pleasure to deal with and combine pragmatism with design flair and a fine eye for detail.”
