We began working with the University of Bedfordshire over 15 years ago, focusing on strategic planning for their Luton and Bedford campuses. We soon became their trusted advisors, working collaboratively to transform an ageing estate.
Our priorities are to improve, adapt and extend the University’s existing buildings, making them fit for the future. We’ve also played a part in improving their image and outreach. Each initiative - from campus enhancements to the creation of modern learning spaces - reflects our commitment to ensuring the University retains its identity as a vibrant and inclusive place to study.

1 Campus Centre
The centre offers vital social and learning spaces at the heart of the Luton campus. Overlooking the historic St Mary's Church, it unifies several buildings and creates a dynamic new entrance to the University. It also plays a pivotal role in upholding the University’s identity and attracting prospective students.
2 Post Graduate Centre
The Post Graduate Centre is home to flexible teaching and social facilities for postgraduate and continuing professional development students. The centre plays an integral role in creating an attractive, cohesive campus, and we designed the new building to have a lively atmosphere, with a spacious event area on the ground floor.
3 Library
The new library is a key part of the Luton campus regeneration, thoughtfully positioned to minimise the impact of future works, and connect both learning spaces and residential accommodation. A tall and striking concrete frame gives this 24/7 facility a strong presence on a relatively small footprint.
MCW have been instrumental in advising, supporting and actively making our campus redevelopment the success that it is.”

4 Bedford Campus Gateway Building
Sitting at the entrance to the Bedford campus, we designed the Gateway building to nurture innovation and creativity, providing 3,750sqm social and teaching facilities. As part of the University's £25m 'greening the campus' initiative, the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ building reinforces their commitment to environmental sustainability.
As a university we really prioritise investing in student facilities, and I think this is the best yet.”

5 STEM Building
Our latest project for the University, the acclaimed STEM building has a dramatic, shared circulation space that connects highly flexible, state of the art laboratories and workshops for computing, engineering, and bioscience. At the ground floor, we designed the University’s Science and Engineering Outreach Centre to be highly visible, encouraging participation and community engagement with STEM subjects.
