With the support of our forward thinking clients at Camprop we are facing up to the challenge of taking concrete and steel out of project design in this scheme for a mass timber CLT office/R&D building on the Cambridge Science Park.
With almost 70k sq ft of highly flexible, multi-tenanted office and research space, this scheme may well be the largest mass timber commercial building in the UK.
The scheme has been developed with Smith and Wallwork who have extensive experience of timber structure design and Scotch Partners’ expertise in low carbon environmental thinking.
The team now also includes UK specialist fire engineers Fire Surgery, in collaboration with Zurich based timber fire specialist Ignis, as we work through the statutory approvals process. The use of CLT means that the total embodied carbon for the building structure will be negative value as a result of the sequestered of CO².
The scheme received a resolution to grant planning permission from Cambridge City Council & South Cambridgeshire District Council, subject to Section106 agreements. The project team includes Henry Riley LLP, Smith and Wallwork, Carter Jonas, Scotch Partners, LDA Design, Faithful+Gould, Camprop Construction Limited, The Fire Surgery and Ignis.
