Why architecture:
Honestly, no idea - but there is ‘new’ every day and that counts in life.

Glasgow taught me about urbanity, strong personalities, and handling rain. After ‘the Mac’ (MacMillan / Metzstein), I cut my professional teeth learning from a ‘boss’ who threw me in the ‘deep’ (drowning occasionally). Then to Fosters before RMJM to meet ‘moses’ and ‘williams’ . Who knew…

Other passions - my creative wife, three inspirational kids, losing myself up mountains. And a little squash and cycling to keep me ticking.

My ‘desert island’:

Discs - a strange changing mix of Waits, Martyn, Franklin, Young, Lang, Undertones, the Chain, Alabama 3 and my daughter singing

Architecture - Falling Water, Barcelona Pavilion and St Conan’s Kirk

Foods - a Glaswegian curry, beans on toast and anything Italian

Luxuries - first coffee, Friday beer and my walking boots

Books - Quiet (a revolution) and my Munros ‘bible’

And remember... ‘less is more - more or less’.

We require from our buildings two kinds of goodness: doing their practical duty well, and that they are graceful and pleasing in doing it. — with thanks to Ruskin
