Vision and experience

The design process has always been for me the most fascinating and mysterious aspect of Architecture, where the emotional dimension and technical solutions work together towards a common vision to the realisation of the architectural project. I studied Architecture in Ortigia (Syracuse, Italy) a charming old town in Sicily. Walking the streets that the Romans and the Greeks built and admiring medieval buildings and baroque palaces have nourished my passion for Architecture.

One of the greatest lessons learnt at University is the importance of combining theory to technical expertise, intellectual ideas to experience, philosophy and science in order to broaden our cultural horizons. Architecture could be compared to the arch that is built using a timber frame. As soon as it is removed, the frame will not be visible anymore but we know that its use has been essential to the realization of the arch. In fact behind every building there is a long journey of research, theoretical thinking, inventiveness and scientific applications.

I moved to London during my last year at University to work on my master degree’s dissertation, carry out some research and develop a project about the Urban Regeneration. The UK has been like my second home ever since and I lived and worked in Liverpool, Manchester, Bournemouth and now I am happily working at MCW Architects and enjoying the lovely city of Cambridge and its wonderful atmosphere.

Always design a thing by considering its next larger context – a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan
